Dialectical Behavior Therapy for college students and young adults; ages 18-24. Next session June 6-July 25; Weekly/Friday 9a-1030a.
A brief 8 week summer session with all the same Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training class components; specifically designed for college students and young adults (ages 18-24). Each week participants learn skills in the 5 core modules:
- Dialectics-Helps to balance opposing tensions related to (thoughts, feelings, relationships and experiences)
- Mindfulness – Helps individuals be present in the current moment.
- Distress tolerance – Most people try and keep themselves safe from all negative emotions. Distress tolerance is geared toward increasing a person’s tolerance of negative emotions.
- Emotion regulation – Offers strategies to manage intense emotions that are the root cause of problems in a person’s life.
- Interpersonal effectiveness – These techniques allow an individual to communicate with others in a confident, assertive way that maintains self-respect and strengthens relationships.
Small group class objectives include:
Practice a variety of wellness and resilience skills, habits, and routines in different areas of your life to minimize stress and optimize well-being
Describe why intentionally ‘practicing’ wellness and resilience skills is critical to developing the fluency to use and reap the benefits from them
Develop a wellness and resilience toolbox of skills and strategies that serves as the vehicle on your roadmap for your future as a student and in your career
Identify values and goals, learn the value of connecting with others in meaningful ways, and identifying unhelpful thought patterns
Plan for how to use these skills in your future career and relationships.
